The Woman Behind the Curtain

Suzanne Reisman lives in Manhattan with her husband (Husband) and 13 lb. rabbit (Tycho Bunnae), but in honor of her Chicago-area roots, insists on referring to soda as “pop” and sneakers as “gym shoes.” She loves exploring the unusual and is the author of “Off the Beaten (Subway) Track: New York City’s Best Unusual Attractions.” She’s also humanist misanthrope. Her writing about the city, public policy, and/or feminism have appeared in print and online. Suzanne has an MPA from Columbia University and is working on her MFA in creative nonfiction at The New School. Usually she does not write about herself in the third person.

Ha ha I remember when I lived in New York my boyfriend there made fun of me for calling “sneakers” “gym shoes” (“What, are you going to the gym in your gym shoes?”) and my roommate made fun of me for calling “ATMs” “Cash Stations.” That was ten years ago, but I never got over it so I still call them sneakers and ATMs.
