In the summer of 1988, I watched the GOP convention on TV while making a Strawberry Shortcake latchhook rug for my cousin as a first birthday present. I remember being irritated that there was nothing else on TV (no cable in my home at that time) to amuse me while I worked on my crafts project. I shook my head in disagreement a lot, because even as a twelve year old, I knew this party had nothing to offer me. The rug was late, but it came out well. The election? Not so much.
