We feasted on the ultimate traife* last night to celebrate my graduation: a whole roasted pig at Daisy May's BBQ in Hell's Kitchen. Here I am maniacally doling out pork from the carcass: IMG_1274

One of my friends from work joined us, and she said that her mother thought it was hilarious that I chose to have my graduation dinner with pork.

"Why?" I asked.

"Um, because you are writing about being Jewish and the Holocaust!" she said.

"Right." Sometimes I miss the obvious.

Clearly, Marcus was not bothered by the porkfest:

Then again, the kid is growing up in Iowa, one of the hog capitals of the world. (I think they are number one or two in the US.) Regardless, all of us enjoyed the meal. Oh, yeah. The reading went really well on Friday. Husband videoed it, so once I figure out how to upload it, I'll post it somewhere. (Although the file is only three minutes - I stuck to the time limit - it was too big to post directly on CUSS.)

Thanks again to everyone who has been so kind and supportive of me as I negotiated this whole writing program thing. I ate some pork in your honor yesterday (or sweet potatoes for the vegetarians, which quite frankly, were even better than the pork).
