My Mom's a Fruit Cake
"I've had a really hard time finding fruit cake at the store in the last few years," my mom told me on the phone last night.
"Um, that is because no one except you buys fruit cake," I explained.
She ignored me. "Fruit cake is the unfair butt of many jokes. It is delicious! Grandma likes it, too."
It takes one to know one.

Awesome! I love crazy mom and grandma! They better not send me any damn fruitcake!

The good news is that their purchase of fruit cake means that the better goodies remain on the shelves for us.
Mom made me buy a fruitcake at the grocery the other day. It took 20 minutes to track it down because no one knew where or what one was. I offered to make a good fruitcake - with real natural dried fruit - but she said no, she wanted the gummy red and green fruits...
I know you said your mom couldn't find fruitcake at the stores so here is a link to some delicious fruitcakes made in Texas.

I hear they are delicious. I gave mine to my sister-in-law who is a Reverend in England cuz the little old ladies in her church love them
Thank you,Pamela, for the link. Suz, I bought 2 Hostess fruitcakes. It was suggested to serve them chilled, which I did. The first cake wasn't so good, but the second one is almost meeting my expectations. Viva la fruitcake!
No fruitcake for you, Steph!
Went to Pamela's link. The Collin Street bakery in Corsicana, Texas had a hotel on the top floor. Enrico Caruso stayed there, among other notables.
