An Early Warning Sign

I clearly remember walking around on my school bus on election day in 1984, trying to convince my classmates to get their parents to vote for Mondale since Regan was “bad for working people.” I was nine.

The point here is that nine year olds do not usually get involved in campaigning like that. My parents are not political people, although I am sure I heard them say shit about Regan and that is where I got the idea that he was bad. It is one of the first signs that I was destined to be frustrated in life.

I wrote a pro-Mondale editorial cartoon around the same time. I don't remember anything about it, though.

That's awesome! If you found it, I would love to see it somehow...

Okay, I'm revealing my age here, but in the same vein, I remember being eight and proudly defacing George Sr's front-page inaugeration photo (including some ugly language about his politics). My mom put it on our fridge to show off to all her like-minded friends. If only I still had the energy for that level of outrage!

Hypocrite! You invited Ronald and Nancy to your Bat Mitzvah! Their response was quite nice!

Only because I am a total dork and wanted to invite the president. It was not my fault that it happenedto be a bad president. Fortunately, I learned a lot as I have grown up and now know that evil presidents should not be invited anywhere.
